Barton Flats

August 24, 2014

Return to the site of last year's A-meet for fast forest running on a high-quality map!

Course setter notes for Barton Flats

Barton Flats is located in the San Bernardino mountains. The map consists of very runnable forest for the most part. There are small areas of thick vegetation but they are avoidable. Throughout the map there are several private camps that lease the land for the forest. These are off limits, and there are ways around each of them. Do not go through the camps for any reason except emergency.

The map is 1:15,000 except for white and yellow which will be 1:10000. There are 5m contours. There is some climb on the courses as is to be expected for the area however route choice can eliminate the steeper areas. The safety bearing is North to either Jenks lake road or for most of the map hwy 38.

Mountain weather can be unpredictable so bring warm clothing. Afternoon showers can occur. Be prepared. Elevation is 6,900 ft at the parking lot.

Registration and download will be at the south fork trailhead parking lot. There will be water and snacks available. Come, brings friends and enjoy the beautiful Southern California mountains

Pre-registration is now closed. Registration will be available on the day of the event at the event site.
