Lake Balboa orienteering

A flat urban park with several impassible features to force route choice. Map is 1:5000, full color, made to sprint specifications. A motala is typically a multi-loop format used on small maps such as this one.

LAOC will be donating funds from this event to the USA Orienteering Teams. Clare Durand, a member of the USA Trail Orienteering Team will be setting a couple of demonstration Trail O control sites for people to try out for free.

White 2.0 km
Yellow 2.7 km
Short Motala (2 loops) 5.6 km
Motala (3 loops) 7.6 km

Onsite registration begins at 9:30 am and will be located in the grass area just South of the large dirt parking lot near the entrance on Balboa. Look for our start/finish banners.

We will be using traditional punch cards for this event.

COOL members - Short Motala will count as JV, Motala will count as Varsity.

Prereg
Preregistration is now closed, but you can still register at the event! Just arrive between 9:30am and 11:30am. If you prereg & prepay your maps will be reserved for you, and you will have a very simple, quick check in.
Directions
This area is in the northwest quadrant of the 101/405 freeway crossing. From the 101 in Encino, exit Balboa Blvd. and turn North. After 0.7 mi, turn right into the park. (This street's name is also Balboa Blvd.) Park in the dirt lot on the left. Look for O-signs.
