Mt Pinos Two-Day
June 24, 2018
Sunday
Map Update for Red Runners
By request, Red maps at the scale of 1:10,000 will be made available on Sunday. Those running F-21+ are still required to use the 1:15,000 map. Other classes on the Red course will have their choice. In making your decision you should take into account that the 1:10,000 version of the map shows less of the terrain and has a few controls near the edge of the page. The 1:15,000 map extends further so you can see the terrain beyond these controls.
Please join us in the Beautiful Los Padres National Forest just West of Frazier Park for two days of wonderful mountain orienteering.
Mt Pinos is at an elevation of approx 8000 ft. The area is lush with pine trees, chaparral, granite, and a multitude of wildflowers. The temperature is generally in the high 80s during the day and can get a little chilly at night.
Sunday has been sanctioned as a National event by Orienteering USA. Everyone who runs on that day will receive national ranking points and we will have awards for age class winners.
Saturday night we will have an informal potluck for those who are interested at campsites 29 and 30 at McGill Campground. Bring a dish to share. We will have firewood and snacks.
Camping at McGill is on a reservation basis, info can be found by clicking link below. Mt Pinos campground is first come, first serve. There are several hotel/motels down the hill and links are provided below. There are also several restaurants to choose from should one not prefer to camp.
Awards will be given for Sunday's sanctioned event for first place.
LAOC and affiliate members will receive a $5.00 total discount for the weekend whether you participate 1 or 2 days.
